Transmission Fluid for 1994 E320

The previous owner did a fluid change about 10,000 miles ago, and he used Dexron III. (By the way, Autozone shows Dexron III as the correct fluid for this car). Recently, the transmission developed an intermittent hesitation going from park to first gear. That is to say, it doesn't "catch" right away when cold, but once it does, it shifts just fine through the gears. I want to change the filter and replace the fluid to something more appropriate for this transmission to see it that helps. Is the synthetic ATF +4 an appropriate replacement fluid, or is the factory stuff the only way to go? I noticed Febi ATF in available online; is this what the factory uses? Thank you for any insight.

I have always used Dexron III/mercon for my vehicle but I have always felt that, althought the tranny seems fine, it feels a little....sluggish?? I dunno, I usually just stick to what the factory says

...let me know what you discover

For reference, the specified fluid is Dexron III -- that's what I use in mine.

Have you checked for low fluid level?

The Fluid level is fine. If I had to take an educated guess, it acts like a clogged filter or bad pump. The latter possibility does not thrill me.

check your flex disk

A thump or hesitation to engage when cold is a likely sign of a worn flex disk.
