I have a 1991 300e, 3.0 automatic.

Where can I get a factory LSD... or parts to change mine?

I have been wanting to get an LSD for my TE to aid in winter time driving since I don't have any traction control. I know that the 16 valve 190E's had LSD's and that the two chassis are so similar I would have to bet that it would be an easy swap. I am going to delve into this more this summer. I have even thought about trying to mod an air locker or something of the sort to have on demand locked rear axle. A locked 2wd rear axle will be far better than a standard 4wd w/out lockers.

There is a list of parts yards that have 16-valve engines/cars in stock. They should have some diffs available.

been wondering this same Q as well, if anyone has any idea as to how to do this please post.

Also when I was doing some reasearch before, if memory serves, our cars did have an option at some point of a automatic LSD....

I thought all traction controls were now done via ABS system on vehicles equipped with ABS and optioned for traction control. The brake is actuated on the slipping wheel to allow for traction. This technology is much simpler and more reliable than the clutch pack in the differential.

Are you sure LSD is available for the 91 300E?

****in' A Peterman. I really think that the 190 Diffs would work, someone just go and try it so we can tell for certain.

Depends. In theory it should improve your launch from a dead stop, but you will lose top speed and fuel economy. Also, any used LSD (i.e., a 190E-16 diff from a boneyard) will need a rebuild... the clutch pack will be shot. So, don't forget to factor in several hundred dollars extra to freshen up a used unit. (The friction disks ain't cheap... trust me.)

what about air lockers? All of the "country" folk at my school who have jacked up trucks have ARB air locker stickers on their window, now I bet 1/4 of them actually have them since they are not cheap. Is this something anyone here has experience? Maybe we could mod something for a midsize truck?

Any air locker would most likely be a 100% lockup... no good for street... only mud.

I would think the 190 diff would be ok... I have used diffs from 200k mile BMWs that where fine, quite and took a bad beating from me... and where still fine.
