Black out grille insert???

Greetz gentz,

Time to black out my grille insert, my only question is:

Should i paint the chrome stripes black too or leave it chrome?

Any pics with a blacked grille insert (not the whole grille) with black stripes ?

Don't do that, please. It will make your grille look unfinished... Your eyes need to perceive something in the middle of your grille that ties it into the grille frame. If it's all black, it will just look like a black hole.

Blacked out grilles only look good in my opinion if you black out everything (i.e. the grille frame too).

But here's my suggestion for you. First, paint the plastic. Reinstall the grille without the chrome slats and see if you like it. It won't look much different than that if you were to paint the chrome slats... If it suits your personal taste, go for it. I'm willing to bet you won't like it.

Good luck and follow up with us!

Peter

I'll do just that, that's a good advice peter, but first have to cover some grille damage made by a flying rock, thank god didn't hit the chrome:

Glued with super glue and then covered the fissures and imperfections with fiber glass paste:

Nice. This is actually one of my favorite mods that I've done to date. It's very subtle, makes the car look newer (and most people won't know why it looks newer-- like I said, it's subtle), and best of all... It's really cheap!!!

They all come grey.

Anyways, here's my grill. It's just powdercoated though.

zorro's is a perfect example- it looks good cuz the whole thing is blacked out. It would look wierd if it was still chrome around the edge.

Zorro, you look like "Leo" in your sig, lol.

Chris and zorro are 2 good examples, the whole blacked out grille looks really good on a black w124!
I really like the mesh in zorro's car too, but don't know if it would look nice unpainted on my blue baby!?
