Towing a trailer w/91 330E

Anyone know why I can only buy a class I hitch for my 300 E? I can't imagine that this car hasn't the capability to match if not out pull the Volvo 850. I read in the manual it can have up to 220# bumper weight. The 850 can only have 165# but can have a class II hicth installed. Is it just the USA can't imagine anyone pulling a 3500# trailer with it?

You probably could get a class II trailer installed but its still at the discretion of the people welding in your hitch. They're pretty much covering their @ss and avoiding any possible issues that may arise. In all honesty I've never seen anyone tow w/ more than a class I hitch with a car. Its probably best that way, better safe than sorry.
