I'm forced to sell my 300TE W124... *sigh*
The fuel cost is really starting to KILL our budget and I have to keep things real, being a family-man. You guys think fuel prices are bad in the US, here's the math for me in the Netherlands:
The current fuel price overhere is €1.36 per Litre.
One US Gallon is 3.79 Litre so that makes 3.79 * 1.36 = €5,15 the Gallon
€1 is $1.30 so I’m paying 5.15 * 1.30 = $ 6.70 the Gallon……………need I say more...
This afternoon I opted for a W210 E220 Diesel which will give me twice the mileage on cheaper fuel.

Does selling the TE and buying a w210 really offset the cost of fuel? I can't blame you, that is quite expensive, and diesel is the way to go. I remember when my dad was looking at the passat diesel wagon or the audi allroad, and even thought the passat got better mileage, it only equated to about 300 bucks a year difference, but with those fuel prices you have, it make sense to do the switch.
Twice the mileage in the w210?!! I get 18 in the city and 23 on the hwy in my TE. Twice that would be awesome.
To bad, beauty wagon.

Indeed...
Yours IS the nicest out there. My 4-Matic wagon gets 17 city and 21 highway. Not only is it expensive but also an inconvenience to have to stop and fill up so often. That is why I bought an 01 Celica as my daily driver. The Benz is still the "Big Gun" and I will keep it as long as I can.
I hope it finds a good home and the new owner joins this forum.
Gongrats on the new car.

All I know is the 300TE gives me 8km per Litre, the E220D will run at least 15km's per Litre and a Litre Diesel fuel costs around €1.- The 300TE weights 1550kg and the E220D 1395kg, also it has a plain and simple 95hp 4 cylinder 2.2L 16V Diesel engine without a Turbo etc.

Sure I'll still hang out here with you guys every once in a while. Don't worry I will love the W124 forever!
Gonna take the W210 for a test drive tomorrow, I'll take some pics if you like but I dunno if it's allowed to post a few here...

you said you're a family man, you're going to need the wagon every now and then... why don't you just keep it, and buy an old civic or corolla or diesel golf to run around in?

You have no idea what that would cost in insurance, holdership- and roadtaxes overhere, it really isn't an option. Keeping the TE and having to run a cheaper car next to it would cost the same if not more in the end...

Since we went bankrupt and everything was closed down and taxes were adjusted, I started to take more notice of things.. I assume our happy-fun regulations were always in place and I was just ignornant of them, just as I laregly am now.

And to add to my own words: what's the point in having a "star" sitting in your driveway when you can't affort to drive it?! My solution is 'upgrading' to a nice benzo I can cruise around with without worrying about the exploitation costs all the time. Here are a few pics of the E220 16V Diesel elegance that will be delivered to us next saturday...

Well the first W124 we had was a 200 Diesel with only 75hp and it weighed 1420kg. The W210 220 Diesel delivers 95hp and weighs 1395. Combined with a 5-speed auto it's a fine combination to cruise around with. Keep in mind that a Diesel has a lot more torque at low rpm's so you don't have to floor it often even with a light engine...

wow, I really wish that MBUSA would import more lower budget MB's like that instead of loaded models, I would love to have any MB sedan with a small diesel and basic immenities for a daily driver. I remember when I flew into Stuttgart a few years ago and I had to get a Taxi, I picked out a w210 E320CDI to take me to the hotel. Man that was a great car, beats the hell out of a crown vic. I think i'll just have to wait until I can afford a used US w211 CDI or ship a w210 or w211 CDI wagon over here. daydreamin......
