aw, I have been there. You have to take the fan off, and the belt, loosen the belt tensioner etc, take the filter housing off, etc, it isn't hard, but it isn't a snap. def, an afternoon job, long afternoon if you have beers involved like I did, compliments of my friends .

Damn that really sucks.

I remember I had to change my serpentine Belt, my dad and I managed to find a loophole and not remove it.

It was a real B1TCH without removing though, thats for sure.

I just took a good look at it..,I dont think I want to tackle this ****.the fan, tensioner housing, belt and the rest of my hair Has to come out.I really dont want to try this on my own without a manual. But,i dont really have 5/6 hundred laying around for a mechanic either.Seem like everytime I spend money on something that that car doesnt really need.Something happen soon after that needs attention right away.I have parts piling up. motor mounts, flex disc, fuel pump relay that I havent even addressed yet.not to mention the other little bull**** I want to do.

this might be a good time to look around the area and do everything else, AND a great time to de-scale the cooling system before you replace the pump. what I mean is - new hoses, clamps, maybe a belt, replace p.steer fluid/filter, is the tensioner good?, plug wires?, dist cap & rotor?, just all those things that you move/touch/loosen.....fan clutch.....ect....part $$ the same, but at least you only do the labor once

do some research before you start.

when i did it, i printed three separate write ups from mercedes shop dot com that detailed the procedure the writers had used. i taped them to the wall of the garage i was working in. and i referred to them constantly.

i DID NOT take off the fan.
you WILL need a long skinny extension bar (i used a 1/4' drive long extension, the requisite 1/4 and 3/s converters and wobble extensions.)

also its easy to take off the wrong bolts. after i took off wht i thought was the last bolt on the waterpup i struggled to remove it for quite a while before bending down to realise that the bolt i should have removed was above the one i did remove. i couldnt see it without bending over.

be prepared to replace your belt tensioner as well. apparently its not uncommon for them to be on thier last legs and then when you reinstall them, they dont work. i learned this one the hard way.

and if youre there, you may as well replace the belt and the belt tensioner strut. its all stuff that needs to come off anyway, its cheap insurance against having to do it again sometime soon.

Well,Fan bearing houseing was replaced yesterday. My car said *I aint done *** fuc*ing you yet get back over here*.Turns out I do need a waterpump just not as bad as I needed a fan bearings. My wrenching days are done it only gonna reach 32 degrees or so next week.

Thanks for the tips I already replaced the tensioner, belts & shock.
