To update or not to update...

Within the next couple years...after i round up some $$ i'll be repainting my car (same color).

QUESTION IS: Should i get the 95' hood and lights? What do you think about the updated look? Keep in mind i have a CE.

I like the 86-93 look better. I have a sedan though, so that's what my opinion is based on.

If you like the 94-95 look, then go for it!

My plan when I do some body work to my CE is to get a new 94/95 hood. My current hood is about a half inch shorter on the right side above the headlight due to being smacked witha full re-tread at highway speeds. My dad and I muscled it mostly level with the fender, but its still ****ed up.

it would be better if you can upgrade it to E320 coupe
with other minor details done too
i dont know many much difference with the E320 coupe though
other than electric mirror on both sides of the car

it's funny, when I first got my CE like 3 years ago I was pretty much insistent that I do this mod. But as time has gone by and I've spent way too much of my life on the forums looking at pics/etc, I think it's a toss-up. I'm 50/50 on it in terms of looks. I think the update looks better if you do all of the other updates with it, and with an AMG Gen II front bumper. But if you only do the grille, it really doesn't impress me and thus is not worth the money.

Lately I've been trying to fight the urge to make my car look newer than it is. I don't know why. I just like the idea of accepting what it is as a part of the mercedes tradition. Sure, I've lowered my car and put new rims on, euros, etc etc. But I still want my car to keep it's original character at least aesthetically. I can't exactly articulate why, it's just the way I feel.

I will eventually color-match the lower body panels, etc. And i've considered shaving the emblems on the grille and having it re-chromed. But something about that big chrome grille is just charming to me, and I feel like I would be sacrificing something if I did away with it.

I really think it's the grille that gives 86-93's character, where as say the newer models' grille is more subtle...

I'm with Bigpete, I actually prefer my '92 grille. To each his own, however!

hmmm.. maybe I keep pre-facelift but body match the eyebrows... that seems like the best compromise to me.

I say

1. Get euros
2. Black out grille inserts
3. minus eyebrows
4. upgrade rims
5. fix good ol' el-bucko
6. repaint/respray
7. update tailights
8. drop

= One Beautiful ride

I honestly don't think that anyone besides an 300E owner would even notice a difference between the two front ends if you wet them side by side. Hell, most 300E owners would probably miss it too.

I think way too many people spend way too much time and effort making mods to their vehicles that do nothing in the way of performance or adding longevity.

If you like to look of the newer Mercs, buy one, just don't try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...

Are you calling the w124 a sow's ear if any benz is worth preserving and putting money into, it is the w124, not a newer one.

Especially with the crooked plate! Dang man, get that fixed. Some stainless steel screws are only a few bucks for the entire car.

BTW, how did you fit your US wipers on the EU headlights with? or are you just using US wiper arms with the newer filler panel?

like i said, got some chrome mb frames to hold up the plates. theres no motor behind the wipers, the wipers were left on after the upgrade.

before i forget...use the seller exceltradingllc on ebay. i found him on ebay and turned out he was in my area. he bought a burned down dealership and is selling parts for really cheap, he hooked me up with my frames for like than $5 for both when the dealership charges about $30. hes got a lot of oem parts for our cars, and other models. oooh, and causes hes right by me, NO SHIPPING CHARGES!

you trickster Those plates are pretty cheap from the MB dealer, about 10-15 bucks each, then figure another 20bucks for primer and paint, and you are good to go! I need to steal the euro wipers and panels from my brother's CE and get him some new flat panels

To update or not to update....

How bout you update your signature

I think on the coupes, the 94+ hood looks way better, but on sedans it's a wash for me, and on wagons, the older style looks better. IMO
