Taking the high road???

Ok, Ok.....I know I am nearly 40 years old driving a nearly 12 year old car. But.......it happens to be a healthy running Benz with a V-8...hehehe. Soooooo, today, while getting on the freeway, I caught a glimps and the sound of a black tuner car coming up quickly with the obvious intention of trying to pass me before the lanes merged into one and then merged onto the freeway. I might have let it go save for the fact that I was the only car between him and the freeway, so he was obviously feeling racey. I guess on/offramps have that effect on people huh?

I should have been civil...I should have taken the high road. I just couldn't. It just so happened I had the car in second gear from a first gear start because I was planning to enter the flow of traffic with a bit of intent (if you get my drift). So, I pinned it just as he was coming around the outside.

It must have caught him by surpise, because he shot a look my way as my car surged forward. He quickly looked forward and then burried the pedal trying to get around me. Hehehe....nope.

I won't say how fast I was going by the time I hit the freeway, but I can tell you he was at least 10 car lengths back and stayed in the right hand lane after that! Once on the freeway I was able to see that the car was a pretty new V-6 Accord with the full ricer treatment. Unfortunately for him, he was neither fast nor furious enough this day.

Anyway, I thought I would report that despite being a little bit irresponsible, I represented the W124 today. Good times!

I think he has more horses in that 6cyl than you do in that 8cyl and its a weighs less.Maybe he took the high road.

I retract that last statement...Honda only has 244horses he might be pushing 260 or so with the exhaust and intake...

Eh, Those are factory claimed horses but strapped on the dyno the honda will pull much less also give or take intake or exhaust mods - he'll only gain 5-10HP.

Interesting perspective. Given he stayed in it for a good 100 yards before letting up, I seriously doubt he was taking the high road.

If we are going to dive into a power-to-weight ratio discussion of the two cars, I would expect that the Benz has more power, and more weight. The only performance enhancement my car has is a Powerchip, and I have no idea if makes any real power beyond stock in a naturally aspirated car with no intake or exhaust mods. The original owner that I bought the car from claims the chip made a BIG difference from the seat of the pants.

Regardless, the roll-on power of the Benz is impressive, and in this instance, was more than the Honda could deal with.

I used to own one of those Hondas. Believe me, you wasted him! They really seem pretty gutless and are one of the most uninspiring vehicles I have ever driven. There is no way I would take on anything from Germany in a Honda.

Based off of my experience driving a friends older Honda, manual tranny...they tend to have more pep in the city. But once you get going on the highway they are gutless.

Mine was a 2001 EX-V6. It just felt lazy to me, and only got 17 MPG. Maybe too much extra stuff added more weight. My E320 gets 19 MPG in rush hour traffic!

Strange, the Benz feels like it is going a lot faster than it really is. I'll think I'm cruising pretty good and I look down and I'm doing 5 under the limit. I just love the way the car feels.
