WTF Kind of Deck is This?
I have been trying to figure out the model of the radio deck in my car and all could figure out is that it is a Becker, most likely a Becker Mexico something or other, it has an in-dash cassette, am/fm/wb, 6 presets which also control the 6 disc changer in the trunk, it's not the standard Becker Mexico 2000 that came with most W124s
If anyone knows what it is let me know, thanks in advance

Just take it out and and you'll have the model number on the right side of the stereo. There are many different Bekker Models out there so narrowing it down will be hard.

My volume knob is on the fritz
If i were to replace it i would use another Becker, their simplistic designs match the 124 interior perfectly, i would love to have a Becker Cascade put in but it costs like $1,500

It was replaced at the expense of the dealer as a condition to me buying the vehicle. I was told it was a rebuilt unit that cost around $250. They got it from a company in California called Fast Track Electronics, Inc. 866-396-7781.
Incidently, it still does the same thing it used to, in that after playing for about 30 minutes it cuts out and displays "Phone". If I turn it on with the ignition off, it plays fine. As soon as I turn the key on again, it displays "Phone". If I remove the defroster fuse that supplies the power to it when the key is on it will work fine. The problem is probably in the amp, I'm guessing. The old unit had a problem with the volume knob, like yours. At least that's fixed and I rarely play it longer than 30 minutes.

Hey you drive CLS? how is that thing and how long have you had it? other than the 07 S Class that is the only benz since the W124s that i like, how long have you had it and do you have any pics posted anywhere?
I test drove one when they first came out and it was a really clean ride but i was not sure how the quality stacked up since it was supposed to be one of the first mercedes since the profit increase of 96 to see the benefit of the profit cut

Becker 1492
That's a becker 1492. There is also a 1692, but they're virtually identical. The volume knob *does* go on these things.... on my old one you could turn that thing from now until wednesday, but the volume would stay the same. (or jump up so loud and blow your eardrums..... made a good conversation piece on those dates)
