Automated garage parking! WOW!

You may have seen this on Yahoo's featured section. It has to be one of the most amazing things i've ever seen. It's like something you'd see in the movies. This is truly the future of parking garages in urban cities. It's been around in places like Japan, but its finally being brought to the US. Seeing how many of us are Engineer's...and car lovers in general, i thought you'd like this.

Seeing it in action is the best part.

That was exactly what I was going to say....lol !!
Only I wonder, what if there are cars parked in front of you and then you need to get out. Are they going to move all the cars in front of you? Thats going to be painstakingly long !!!

And the car was set on like pegs or something.... What about different cars. Not all cars have the same wheel base

There doesn't appear to be much room for error in that sequence of ops. It must use sensors to determine where every corner of the car is. I wonder if there is any intelligence used to determine what type of car it is and thus how to support it.

On a more dismal note, pretty soon it will take about a tenth of the workforce it does now to run the world. We are getting so good at engineering people out of jobs that it's bound to cause a serious problem sooner or later. What are we all going to do when machines and PLCs are doing it all for us?

I'd say computer engineering would be a good major in college since computers will become such a vital part of our lives. I'm a Construction Engineering Management major but i'd say im safe since someones gotta be in charge of all this stuff thats being built!
