definitive wheel fitment guide for w124 pdf

I mean, is there a difference in construction of the two cars?
(Edit: yes offcourse there is, but you know what I mean. )
I ask because I have no c124 knowledge, but I have fitted 18"- 9,5"ET35 on my lowered w124 without rolled fenderlips. I did however have to do a minor tyrestretch though, so I fitted 225/40 on my rear. But the rim in question is a 17"- 8,5"ET30, so they will not stick out as much as mine. In fact there is a difference of 7,7mm on the outer edge of the rim, so together with say 225 whith on the tires I'd say that would be a perfect fit, atleast in my book.

Is it tighter space to fit rims on the rear of a c124 than the w124?

They didn't rub but the inner lip was modified.
I had about a fingers width clearance.
I am renewing some Zender Star 16x8's at present and plan on running higher/narrower profile 225/55 Pirelli P7's.
I don't want to lose anymore ground clearance otherwise I won't get over speed humps.

Hey mb world!!
I'm very new to the Benz scene. But I finally bought my first Benz. A white 1989 300ce. I love it. I just have few questions about rim size and lowering. I have a guy that's selling a set of 4 Carlsson 3/6. Et 35 18x8.5 (front) 18x10 (rear). How low can I go without rubbing?

The 8,5's in front will fit nicely with 215/40 tires and be able to go pretty low without any rubbing issues. You might experience some fender rubbing when wheels are turning if you go extremely low, but that can be easily fixed with some fender rolling and a AMG spacerkit for the front fenders.
The rear 10" will rub the fenders if you don't get an agressive fender roll, as the lip of the rim will be quite wider than the wheel arch originally. But with that fender lip rolled flat and the fender pulled out slightly you will run clear. I would suggest 225/40 tires to get the best clearance, or you might be able to fit 235's in best case.
I have 9,5x18 ET35 with 225/40 in the rear myself, and I had some rubbing even my car was not as low as you want to go.
Hope that helps you decide what you want to do.

Blackstar stig,
Thanks for the reply. You answered my questions perfectly. Now for the next set of questions...What lowering kit do you recommend? Should I do a tire stretch? Do I have to buy aftermarket cambers?

Putting 225/40/18 tires on a 10-inch wheel is dangerously stretched. The few tire specs I looked up for 225/40/18 tires do not allow a rim wider than 9.0 inches. Just because someone else did it, and hasn't had a tire pull off the wheel, doesn't mean it's a good idea. You need at least a 255-wide tire on a 10-inch wheel. No, you should not do a tire stretch... this is almost always a Band-Aid for having the wrong wheel width/offset in the first place; unless you think it looks good, in which case I have no comment. From a performance standpoint, tire stretch sucks.
Seriously, I would pass on these wheels and look for a set of 8.5's (max!) all around. You'll have nothing but trouble trying to fit oversize wheels, especially with undersize tires.
Flame suit on, I'm sure I'll catch hell for this...

I totally see your point AMG Dave, and I will not flame you for thinking safety.
I have 225/40 on my 9,5" wide rims, and I personally don't think I have that much stretch on my tires. If I was looking for the stretch-look I would probably have to fit 215 or 205's, but I just went for the tiny barely visible stretch just to keep my tires inside the wheel arches.
Anyway, if those 10"x18" are going to fit at all there has to be a good amount of tire stretch and fender roll/stretch involved. If not the car can not be lowered at all, it has to be lifted as you say.
I am not telling anyone what to do, I am merely stating what can be done.
And it is most likely going to be illegal, just so that is said too..

There are so many lowering kits out there I have not tried so I will not go ahead and recommend any when I don't have any experience with them myself. I have a swedish brand called Lesjøfors myself, probably not the best but it does the job. Lowers 40/40 on the springs, and with #1 pads all around the car gets pretty low. I still want to go lower, but I am aiming for airride next myself.
A tire stretch is a must on those wide rims, it is just a matter of finding just the perfect balance between tirestretch, fender roll/ stretch and camber angle for your ride/rideheight.
So aftermarket adjustable cambers would probably be helpful in your case.

Thought I would add my 2c and say that my experience is exactly as tirerack say.
225/45r17 rubbed badly on the front of my sedan before and after replacing stock with H&R mild lowering springs.
215/45r17 Michelin Pilot Sport 3s just went onto the AMG II replicas (ET37 17x7.5") and all is sweet again.
I've kept the 225/45r17 PS3s from the front to fit to the back when it needs them, so no money wasted really.
I love my car again!

Hi
Can anyone confirm if these would fit on a W124:
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/adela...140/1085051415
Or is 8 inch too wide? I don't really want to deal with spacers or fender modifications...
thanks

17 x 8 at ET 37 is a little bit high with that width you may find you'll have some rubbing going on.
Remember the higher the offset the further in the wheel goes towards the brakes and suspension and inner guards.
Yes they would fit and possibly be okay particularly if it isn't lowered.
But quite honestly the only way to confirm would be to try them.
Check hard lock at the front and loaded passenger when on the rear as most W124's have a strong camber on them at the rear
MB sizes in that range were
17x7.5 42 235/45R17 AMG
17x8 28 235/45R17 AMG
17x8 30 235/45R17 AMG
17x8 30 235/45R17 Carlsson
Your best bet when looking for non W124 rims is in the early C Class.
You can go staggered with 17 x 7.5 front ET 35 17 x 8.5 rear but rear offset needs to be around 30.
You may need to roll the guards though for that sizing.
Might I suggest if your on facebook join up OzBenz group lots of W124 owners in Oz are members on there and get bit quicker responses. Cheers

cheers for the response stormtigers.
I think I might let these ones go then. I have had bad luck getting the wrong size rims previously, which i thought would fit, but ultimately didn't.
Oh well, the search continues...

Thought I would chime in here as I just went through this with my 95 E-420.
Wanted a square set up that could be rotated so I went with ET 35 7.5x 17 Anzios.
Was looking hard at the rear fit + wanted a decent ride so went at first with a 215x50 P-7 that tire rack said would clear. It didn't clear and did damage to the fender lips up front when I hit a bump a speed while turning sharply.
Dropped back to 215x45x 17 P7's on the ET 35 7.5 Anzios and now all is well. LOVE the ride and steering response with the P-7's as it is just light years improved over where it was with the tiny stockers.
Will still fully roll the front lips and space the fenders soon just to be safe as these W-124's are the hardest cars I have ever owned to fit wheels and tires on!!
At least now I'm not having to catch the blasted thing constantly when it comes up on the cams on a freeway on ramp in the damp and suddenly gets loose like I did with those freekin Pizza Cutters the factory installed (What the $%# were they smoking when they decided on using H rated 195x 65x15's on 6.5's for these US M119 cars???).
Here's the look with the 215 45's
