Oil Consumption

Hi, my car is 230E w124 mod 1989 with 134000 Kms originals, but i note that in the last 3 oil changes my car looses 2Qt. Any idea? i dont loose power and i dont look any white smoke, no leaks. Is this a notice for rebuild the motor?
best regards.

Usual suspects for leaks -

head gasket, timing chain cover, rear main seal.

My car eats up oil as well, but mine does leak.

Check your coolant reservoir. If it's brown, or worse, if it looks like it has chocolate pudding in it, your head gasket is leaking oil into your coolant. It's kind of like the car equivalent of internal bleeding.

I had this problem...have this problem. I am replacing the head gaskets. If you see and oil build up near the headers/exhaust manifold or smell oil burning after you have driven for a while, it usually means you have a small leak somewhere that is dripping onto the exhaust. This is not really a big deal, just get it fixed pretty soon.

My 1986 300E (gone now) used oil until I changed the valve seals and stopped up all of leaks.(valve cover seal, distributor drive seal, front cover seal to name a few) If you take off the dust cover under the car if there are any leaks they will show up there. It will hold a lot of oil and you may not see drips on the driveway very often.

My car had a 115,000 miles on it when I sold it and used no oil. The valve seals get hard with age and allow oil to pass through with the fuel and it just goes out the exhaust. The CAT will burn up the oil and you won't see it behind the car unless it has a severe problem like the rings are bad.

Good Luck

Take Care
