Burning smell from vents
Hey guys,
I'm getting a burning rubber smell from the vents when I use heat or A/C. Are there any filters for the heat/air? I don't think it's the heater core because the heat still works and I'm not getting film on the insides of the windows.
Any ideas?
thanks

Is it burning rubber or burning maple syrup smell? The former could mean
A) Burning blower motor
B) Something in the engine compartment being sucked into the intake vent at the bottom of the windshield. If the smell lessens when in recirc mode, this is probably the case.
The latter probably means a leaking heater core. This is usually accompanied by fogging windshield when the defroster is on.

Check and see if you have a plastic bag stuck (melted) to the exhaust. It will appear black if it melted.
If you really think it's related to the a/c/c system, smell around the control buttons as the control panel is the only real thing that could fry. Everything in the a/c/c system is short circuit protected through the panel which is also the brain.
