i took it to a generic exhaust place, and they have suggested retail value for certain parts, meaning dealer prices. i had holes through the entire exhaust system.. none of it had been touched since it was put on at the factory. so a flowmaster just made the most economic sense.
no worries, though. liking the flowmaster is just my opinion, many people here do not like flowmaster, and many others, including yourself, aren't huge fans of aftermarket, especially generic american companies. but i respect that and understand where you're coming from.

I may end up with magnaflows this summer (its near the bottom of the list for things to do)

89 300TE, and 68 280sel
look on you tube, there are is a 300E with magnaflows. I am going to use my buddy's dig vid cam this weekend to get a shot/sound if I have time.
I would like to see that Dyno of the loss of HP by changing an exhaust system. I know that with my 400E I gained about 3mpg on the Hwy and lost no aparent power. Also, in my 300TE I can make it up the pass on I90 going 75 without shifting gears all the way to the top, I couldn't do that before.
Maybe a loss in HP(on paper but I want to see it), but there has been no loss of torque, and that is all that matters to me trying to move this heavy beast around.
