removing the spring pads

Well I just wanted to know your guys opinions on removing the spring pads on the stock suspension. I'm dying to lower the car and the local 'specialists' are run by a bunch of idiots. I left a deposit for some vogtlands beginning of feb and they said 2 weeks. Go back a week and a half later and he says no way man at least 3 weeks. OK, kinda mad, go back 3 weeks and I get 'they are backordered; you won't get them for awhile'. I guess it takes 3 weeks to find out if something is backordered??? And no phone call either.

Anyway, I'm going to be doing brakes and be under the car anyway and I even bought the spring tool. Will it be ok for now for a month untill I find another place to buy springs or should I just wait.

Thanks!

if your gonna have a shop adjust the spring pads, it will either take them a long or short time depending on their knowledge. When i got mine changed, it took the guy 2 hours, where chris says TWS can do it in like 30 mins.

so seeing how your 'local' guys are idiots taking them 3 weeks to order springs i woudln't trust them to do it

Actaually I was going to take the pads out completely myself. I even have the sping compressor tool. I've done a lot of suspension in my day, maybe not Mercedes but I think I'll manage to figure it out. How does it ride without pads anyone know?

Do you even have the correct spring compressor for MB springs?

Actually ya I do. I spent $300 on it too. I think it may be one of the most expensive specialty tools I've bought.

Anyway, I did the brakes today and I took one of the front springs off. After looking at the pad and the spring and the housing I decided not to remove the pad. It dosn't look like I would gain much lowering anyway and would not allow proper seating of the spring. I'll just wait for the lowering springs.

Oh and if anyone is thinking about doing the suspension yourself buy the tool and do it! By far the easiest car I've done, and I've lowered a lot of cars.

What happens if you dont wish to use spring pads or bump pads at all? Is that even possible ?

My car is a 1988 300E, and they all came high at that time for some reason. Im not lowering my car until fall and I already got my 17" monoblocks.

So if I get rid of my bump pads completely or use bump 1 pads, what will be result?

Thanks

Bro, you don't really want to roll without the spring pads, the springs kinda "sit" in the spring pad and I'm sure absorbs some of the energy from the spring as well. Besides, what are you really gaining be taking out the spring pads? If you want it lowered just order some eibachs or intrax and you'll have them in a few days, unless you're really hard-up for the vogtlands. But just hang on and keep the spring pads in there.

Well its not that I cant Eibach or Vogtlands. Its just that, if I get them, Ill have to change my shocks, camber kits. The whole lot. And im trying to not get into that until fall.

So until then, with my new Monoblocks, I need to ride a lil low

So I'm thinking maybe changing it to bump 1 pads will do the trick for now.

What say you?

Xudeck.....I totally agree with him ^. After I took my springs out and saw the pad and where the spring would sit without the pad I decided against running no pads. The gains seem to be minimal. I don't know if any damage would result or if the ride would be compromised but it seemed kinda shady to me. Trust me I'm anxious too; I've waited a full month and I'm right back where I started. I think you being a fellow Canadain we feel the same pain with the long waits and stupid fees to get stuff from south of the boarder.

On that note anyone have some used lowering springs???
