400E modifications, What to get?

Right now I have an all stock 92' 400E. I want to make it look better and faster. I am going to do several different things to do that. The first is to tint the windows, the second is to get new taillights and clear corners. I have seen the ones on the 94' and 95' E-class that are smoked and they look really good. The problem is I don't know if they are compatible with my 92', they are the same size but might have a different wiring harnes. If anyone knows it would help me a lot, also where I can get them cheap. After that I am planning on getting new rims. The stock 15 inch rims with their 195/65 tires are to wimpy. I am thinking of getting the 17 inch AMG 170's or 203's. I am only wondering if they are to wide, I would like to put 225/40's on the front and 245/35's on the rear. I anyone has put rims like this on their 3 or 400E please let me know if they will fit. The tire rack seems like the only place to get these, but they are expensive. Need a cheaper place. I might also replace the springs and shocks. The last thing are the headlights. Everyone raves about the European models which look similar to the 94' and 95' E-class lights. I will upgrade to them if anyone knows of a cheap place to find them. As with the engine all I want to do is stuff that is cheap and effective. If anyone alse can help me out with any of these questions it would help a lot. And if anyone knows where to get this stuff cheap too. If anyone can think of anything else to do let me know.

Hi Kooly2,
to find quite cheap clear corners, European head lights and tail lights (clear or smoked) try Ebay.com or Ebay.de auctions, you'll find good deals from poeple who salvage their totals for example. The tail lights for the W124 are all similar for all years. The head lights are different depending whether you have the hood with large grill or the hood with the grill integrated in the hood. If you swap the tail lights, the wire harness is not involved in the swap since you only change the glass not the electricals.
On the tire and rim issue I cant comment.

all of the front corners are interchangeable thru out the w124 line.

the ones you can get on e-bay are junk, crap, dung. i don't care what anyone says,i've been there, done that!!

hella or bosch are the only ones that will hold up & stand the test of time.

www.puma-access.com talk to paul for oem hella euro lights.

AGAIN, it is a waste of your time and money to fool with "knock offs"!

if this stuff was THAT good m.b. would have used it to begin with!

www.calibermotors.com tom hansen, m.b.WHOLESALE parts dept. a place to check if you want oem tail lights.

btw- you can buy just the rear lenses, instead of the whole set up

www.tirerack.com is a lot cheaper than www.bekkers.com for wheels.

hope this helps.

Tire Rack is a huge discount. Go to the Mercedes dealer and the 17X7.5 retails for about $500. Now that Tirerack price of $309 seems like a bargain. If that is to much for your budget you can consider the Monoblock replicas for $196.90 from Bekkers.

I have a set of the 16 inch monoblocks which was intended for E430 snow duty until I traded it. And the quality and the finish looks great and the wheels are TUV approved. They are made by Intra - www.intra-wheel.de

Yes I do have the eight hole rims, they have the grey finish on them, not the brushed metal look if that makes any sense. They do have some scratches on them from hitting curbs from the previous owners. I plan on selling them when the current tires need replacing. It will probally be in a couple months.
