Did a wallaby chew through your wiring? Seriously, look for something like that.

hmmm...yeah, maybe not a wallaby, but a rat or something. Something has to have changed, I regularly leave my car sitting up to 6 weeks when I go overseas and it always fires up first bang, well not quite but only needs enough cranking to get some fuel pressure. How do you know its getting fuel?
My understanding (rudimentary) of the fuel pumps is that its set up to pump only when the engine is turning over unlike electronic injector systems where common rail pressure is pumped up when the key is turned on. The next thing is the cold start injector but there's no reason why it wouldn't work apart from the proverbial rat chewing through the wires...

Check the fusing for the OVP relay which is located behind the battery.
Your symptoms are typical of a blown fuse.

Injector Cleaner Problem

My MBZ Techo reckons this is a result of me adding injector cleaner to the fuel tank and only travelling a very short distance (70kms), before letting it sit while away on vacation. Seems dislodged glunk is probable causing the fuel pump piston to stick. Is now starting intermittantly and he recommended I use up the existing fuel (and injector cleaner), asap and refill with fresh fuel to finally overcome the issue.
On the other hand the cleaner has really cleaned up the injectors and got rid of the slight lag an starting.

Best to use Chevron Techron on a regular basis, say every 3000 miles as MB dealers in the USA recommend it. It will keep your fuel system clean.
Glad it started for you

Check OVP fuse. If that's ok, switch key to on position then try to listen to the fuel pump at the right side of the rear seat. Or you can remove the fuel pump relay behind the battery and short terminal 87 & 15 with a small jumper wire then start, if it does your relay is kaput. Good luck.

Pump fine and starting improving - Iam confident it was the injector cleaner gumming up the pump piston.
