300E-24(m104) vs. 190E 2.3-16

Hey guys what are your thoughts between the 2. which one is quicker? Anyone know the power to weight ratio difference between the 2. Anyone know if the AMG exhaust system adds any more hp for 3.0m104 and how much. Also does anyone know the true tuned hp of the euro 3.0 m104? Lets discuss!

I raced head to head with my friend 2.3-16V in my old 300E with the M103 engine.

The race was pretty even but I would slowly pull away towards higher speeds. The 2.3-16V is really slow in the low-end but gets quicker obviously in the higher range.

When we both dyno'd our cars - I managed to pull a lot more than him.

The AMG exhaust will not produce any HP gains. Increasing the output would require gutting the catalyst and removing the resonator in addition to a high flow rear muffler.

Gains even in that case would be minimal... less than 10hp and perhaps as little as 3-5hp.

By the 90s Mercedes built for North America had the same rated HP as their Euro equivalents. This had not been true of the Cosworth W201s, the SECs, the SELs, and many other models released in the 80s. You still saw better options in Europe though as you can see in your Graymarket car.

if they are in great shape i would think 700ish to a grand (i'm assuming 17")... though most people who like that style might prefer not to have them in chrome

I've seen 17x8.5 Monoblocks going for 750-800. Seems quite reasonable.

The 190E 2.3-16v is 185bhp and 167lb/ft. It weighs 1260kgs and is 7.7s to 60.
The 300E-24 is 220bhp (196 lb/ft) with cat and 231bhp without (201 lb/ft). It weighs 1480kgs and is 7.8s to 60 with cat and 7.5s without.

AMG exhaust does not add BHP.

AMG had no involvement with either the 300E-24 or the 190E 2.3-16v.

Ahh, yours is the 300E-24 from the other thread.

Basically, AMG was just a tuning company at the time. There were the beginnings of a tie up between the two a bit like there is now between Brabus and Mercedes. Brabus parts are now stocked in a similar way to AMG back then. Your car was a standard 300E-24 with the sportline package and an AMG bodykit and exhaust.
If you order a brand new E-Class today and add a Brabus exhaust and bodykit from the accessories list does it become a Brabus car? mmmm, no, not really.

Your car is lovely though.

It also has the AMG suspension, and I've heard they only put that on at the AMG facility.....Is that correct?

Code 653 from your VIN check is just the standard sportline suspension option. AMG had no involvement with the sportline bits.
