Identifying W124 with ASR?

I am looking at importing a 300TE from Japan and was wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to identify if a vehicle has the acceleration slip regulation system (ASR)?

From my understanding this became an option on the W124 in 1991 for all but the 500E in which it was standard.

I was told the auction sheets in Japan do not commonly note ASR, so my plan is to indentify ASR in a pre-auction inspection of the vehicle. Can someone advise me to the best method to identify ASR so that I can advise my broker?

Does anyone know how common of an option ASR was from 1991 on?

Thanks

There will be an ASR defeat switch as far as I know in the centre console...

An ASR defeat will always be an aftermarket option.

On my E420 an orange/yellow warning light will kick in whenever ASR engages. Its set right above the speedometer. A vin decoder would probably tell you though... I'm assuming that at least.

ASR traction system was available as an option on the petrol/gasoline model W124s from 1991. I think that the MB code for this is 471.

Yup, ones with ASR have a different speedo. If there's no light in it then it doesn't have ASR. You can just make it out with the ignition off.

Thanks for your responces.

I think the indicator light within the speedometer will be an easy find for the pre-inspection.

I have attached a photo with the indicator light within the speedometer. Found it in an older manual. Its actually for the 4-Matic or Diesel limited slip differential. But I'm guessing the ASR indicator would be close to the same.

I think 300E w/ASR is rare in Japan. Mine is an exception.

500E Signal Rot
The W124 didn't have a ASR defeat per say, but it did have a switch in the dash for snow chain use, which turned ASR off up till about 20mph, then it came back on.

Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupe E320 1995
W124 with ARS has ASR malfunction indicator (it is right indicator with ASR icon).
Also there is special button on the central console with the icon shown a wheel with snow chains.
