Advice on Houston Mercedes Repair Shop Please
So I managed to convince a good friend of mine to join the Mercedes family. He went out and found himself a '91 E class Wagon w/ 4-matic. (yay to him, yes, i know. It is/was certainly better than his 92 Pontiac Grand Am)

Anyway, He's had it about a week, and yesterday all of a sudden it started to develop this really bad sounding clunk from the front/middle of the car.
So, this all leads me to the question, Does anyone know any really great (hopefully not too expensive) repair shops in Houston, TX that we can trust?
I still go to the dealership for my car, plus i'm still a relatively new transplant.
Any advice is most welcomed. Thanks in advance!
Does your friend work on his own car at all? Send him here and we'll try to hook him up with the right info.
What end of town are you guys in?
A 90's range E class wagon w/ the Mechanical variant of 4 matic is a different story.
He is telling me its probably something with the drivetrain. Don't know if its around the CV joint or such.
We're over by the galleria area. 610 & westheimer.
WE're not sure how far to drive the car, but it is driveable....
Thanks for replying.

I live on Westheimer not too far from the galleria. I have a mechanical engineer (5th degree masters) that works on production and non production cars. He is german and very knowledgeable. My Volvo indy told me that he used to work in the tuning division of Porshe. He is at Richmond. He won't charge you by the book since it's a Mercedes. There are other cars that he works on that he profits from. He doesn't work on American cars. They are nothing but liabilities.
The second is at Westheimer by Hillcroft. For simple services, it's worth taking it there. I had my transmission serviced completely with the M fluid and steering fluid (M synthethic) under 140.00. The downside to this is that you let your car be serviced under the supervision of the lead tech. He is so knowledgeable about European cars. It's been a year and don't have to pay dealer fees.
The dealership on U.S. 59 should not be an option to have your car serviced. I take the service techs as high school graduates that replace parts only.
