95 e320...sold the rest
cheap, but reliable lowering springs

I'm looking for some good solid lowering springs for my 94 e320. I don't want them to be godly expensive either. What are some brands you guys out there prefer?

Oh, and also...I was looking into some new brakes in about 6 months or so. I just recently put 16" E420 wheels on it...and i wanted to upgrade the brakes as well.

Any ideas on which brakes and springs?

Why not use the factory Sportline springs? They're about $300/set wholesale.

The E420 brakes are the same as the E320, both are 294x25 up front. In the rear, both are 278mm, but the E320 has solid 9mm rotors, and the E420 has vented 24mm rotors. If you're not doing a twin-turbo install, I'd keep the stock brakes, add stainless braided lines and Porterfield R4-S pads, and that's it. If you need larger brakes, you'll want either the early 500E/SL500 fronts (300x28) or late E500/SL600 fronts (320x30), with the 400E/500E rears (278x24). Trust me. BT, DT. I have the 300x28 fronts with 278x24 rears on my Sportline diesel. More brake details are here:

H&R's Sport springs about $270.00 from Tire Rack. Zimmerman Drilled rotors ( stock diameter) and a good OEM style pad will run you about $400.00. Bilstein HD shocks under $400.00.

If you're lucky a guy like AMG Dave might have a great price on Sportline sways !!! ( Thanks Dave)

If your car is lowered, yes, get either Bilstein Sports, or KONI's.

I put 500E struts on my diesel (Genuine MB, made by Sachs), with Sportline rear shocks (Genuine MB, made by Bilstein). These are a lot more expensive though.

im very happy with my eibachs. its makes the car very . . . bmw like. im not sure if its kosher to say that on here tho.

Yeah, those would work. However you really need to be careful... Eibach only offers one set that I know of (maybe two?) and they are for the standard 300E/E320 with standard rear suspension. If you have SLS rear, it won't work; ditto for a wagon, ride height may vary or be uneven front to rear with a diesel, coupe, cabrio, etc etc.

That's the advantage to the factory Sportline springs... there are about a dozen different ones, and you can select the correct set for your exact car. There are factory Sportline springs for just about every 124 model ever made, including all sedans, coupes, cabrios, and wagons... about the only exceptions are 4Matic and long-wheelbase (limo) models. (Although there was no Sportline version of the 500E, there was an E60 AMG suspension kit which was a "sport" upgrade from the standard 500E suspension. )

Remember not to go too low... you'll have ground clearance issues, no shock/strut travel, the strut stop buffer may be sitting on the strut body, you'll get tire rubbing with larger tires, etc, etc. It may look cool but functionally it's useless on "real" roads. Measure from the wheel center to the bottom of the fender lip, my recommended height for street-driven 124's is 14.25 inches front & rear with a full tank of fuel and NEW dampers. As the shocks/struts and rubber items wear, the height will lower over time, may end up at 13.75-14.0... it's better to start a little high with new parts, than start low and end up with it in the weeds two years later. (BT, DT.)
