##@$%&* tuning all over the shop...

I replaced the coolant temp sensor and bingo, no more cutting out at 10 mins running - great. But....after a few days running the no. 6 cyl. stopped working - plug completely fouled. Cleaned it, lasted a couple more days, fouled again. under load engine pings and blows big cloud of smoke. Now i definitely didn't blow my rings/valve guides/whatever overnight so I'm theorising that someone originally enriched the mixture to compensate for a coolant sensor fault. I've leaned off the mix 1/4 turn - tried 1/2 but the idle started going a bit asthmatic - i'm wondering what the f#$@ is going on...

if plug is fouling with fuel, you might have weak ignition,like weak wire..injector stuck open...and the list goes on forever....you might try swapping parts if you don't have the proper tools to carry out repair,I mean swapping all parts from another cylinder and see if the problem moves....
put plug,wire,injector from cylinder # 5 for example on cylinder #6....
