Cheap mods for 1991 300CE

Hi. I have a 1991 300CE. I am only 18. I used to drive a 2004 BMW 325xi, so this is a big step down (I had to give it to a cousin). Anywho, this car sucks. It handles horribly, the automatic shifts are slow and shift at 5000rpm when the car is floored, the body roll is just disgusting, the engine sounds and performs horribly at low rpm's, the steering feels numb, etc. What mods can I do (totalling under $500) that will improve the drive of this car. I have brand new Bridgestone Potenza RE960A/S tires and removed the spare tire. Ugh, the body roll is the worst thing. It's just horrendous. If there's some cheap stuff on eBay, let me know.

Sure, you can buy an E55 AMG badge.

Seriously though, that has to be the dumbest question I've ever heard... You need to realize you are not driving a honda civic where you can get modifications like pears at the market. These cars are about relaxation, and enjoyabillity, not speed, and for 500 bucks you can't buy anything, because there is nothing available, exept maby a custom cold air intake which you will hardly feel any difference.

Actually you're taking a step up....

Your 1991 300CE cost more new in 91 then the 325XI cost new in 04
Two completely different vehicles and designed for different purposes.

The 300CE when new in 1988 competed market wise against the 635CSI.
I was fortunate enough to shop both cars new in may of 1988, and true the 635CSI had more power and handling, but overall build quality and level of trim caused me to purchase the 300CE new for $53K over a less expensive 635CSI.

Nineteen years later and a bit more then $500 worth of mods I have a head turning coupe that will run with contemporary M3's while most mid eighties BMW's are long relegated to the junk pile...

Consider how many late eighties and early nineties W124's are still on the street compared to their BMW counterparts

i would lower your car, get some wider rims/tires (17" probably), and get a 400e/e420 or 500e swaybar. that's about all you can do body roll wise. the only one of those you can do for under $500 is lowering, but that will certainly help. try being, oh I don't know, not an *******, and people will be much more receptive to helping you.

Range Rover Classic
Body Roll - Replace the swaybars with the Sportline versions.

Power - Turbocharge, engine swap, or displacement upgrades.

Transmission - Swap in the 5 speed GETRAG.

Steering - Tighten the steeringbox (its not rack and pinion.) Install lightweight wheels with low profile tires. Failing that swap in a higher ratio steering box from one of the sportline models.

Only the first will cost less than 500. Sell the car and get something else.

His name is even more stupid than he comes across...he's a whiny brat that has things handed to him (and evidently taken away cause he's a douche bag) and he wouldn't know a real car if it ran him over..

Good riddance, ignorant fv(kt4rd.

Hey, I would love another 300ce coupe from 1991! Yeah, the body roll is alarming, but you know what? No other car drives like my 300ce does on the highway. Sure, takes me about 8sec to get to cruising speed, but once there, its ****ing perfect.
Sooo... Yeah, **** off. Or, be a little more tactful, and actually ask real questions.

Wow if you have it where you can just give cars away like that, then you should have plenty cash to splurr. How far does $500 go anyways?

Fixed.

I smell a troll, actually. He signed up and posted here just to rile us up. Forget the f4660T and let's just let this thread die.

We know the truth about how pimp our W124's are....I'd love to compare the body roll on his entry level mommy 3 series to my 300E....I'd run circles around him

What is the difference between a porcupine and this bmw driver?

A porcupine has its *****s on the outside.

He got into a cruising car meant for the autobanh.... I wonder why it doesn't handle corners well...
