Replacement Keys

i searched around here for threads regarding these keys but to no avail...

i have a 91 300E and only 1 set of keys. Im not sure if these are the originals but its a set of 2 keys, 1 to open the doors (flat), and 1 for the ignition (fat). There isn't a keyless entry feature or anything, so how much would it cost to get a replacement set? Also, is it possible to just have 1 key that does both? or one of those cool flip-up keys on the newer models?

I installed an aftermarket keyless system in my TE and it has the flipout key, I love it.

Any quality keyshop has the MB key blanks available. Also try the dealer for a key blank, or they can often have a key cut for you with your VIN

did you use one from ebay? just one of the standard cheap ones? i've been thinking about screwing with that for a while now. i figure anything is better than the stock locking system.

Most hardware stores and locksmiths (in my area, San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles) won't have the hardware necessary to make you a replacement key. It's a laser cut key thats wider than your typical American or Japanese key if they are to be believed. You have to go to the dealer with your ID and registration/ pink slip for a replacement. Prices range from ~$35- $70 so it pays to shop around.
