E320 Airbag Date Warning
I noticed a door sticker indicating: "Replace Airbags in 2008". Okay, so if you don't, would it deploy shreds of bag in your face next year? Makes me consider disabling the detonator system. I'm sure replacement bags and install is a spendy adventure.
The car is not hammered and needs proper care but bags are low on the list. The steering wheel is worn and I'm thinking of nixing the bag and replacing the wheel. Can't seem to find a decent wheel cover.
Everyone should own a Mercedes once to benchmark any other car you'll ever drive. Great site! Anyone else with this vintage consider the warning tag?

Congrats, it should be an awesome ride.
Getting rid of the bag would disable the SRS (supplimental restraint system). If working properly the system also controls the seat belt pretensioners (another pyrotechnic device located in the seat belt retractors) which would trigger on a first threshold crash within 30 degrees or less of the vehicle centerline. If worn these will pull the user back into the seat, upright, and allowing the the seat belt room to absorb the crash energy by stretching. The airbag would be deployed then under the second threshold (much higher). If your not wearing the seat belts, the first thresold will deploy the bag.
I would not want to lose such a valuble safety system and it's against the law for any shop to disable it. Just have the leather repaired
Here is an awesome place to have it done. He can usaually ship a wheel in advance to swap.
