260E water pump
So I am probably going to add a new w124 to the stable. The owner says the water pump is bad. They were told this by a reputable indy in ATL. Could I drive the car back to my place with the water pump not working. It is mostly highway driving. I just need to get it home this weekend and replace the water pump. It would be a 30 mile or less drive. Any thoughts.

You probably could make it if you rolled down all your windows and blasted the heaters. Once you pull in to your garage I'd point a fan toward the engine just to help it cool down.

depends on how shot the water pump is.
i needed a new one and drove for a few months with it leaking. didnt have time to replace it but it wasnt on the verge of seizing or anything since it was just the gasket leaking. bout thanksgiving time, drove from LA to phoenix with that same faulty water pump and then replaced it during my 2 week vacation time.
be smart. take all necessary precautions, leave when youll encounter little traffic, try to not rev the engine too much, but most importantly watch your coolant temperature like a hawk. i prefer to not engage the heater until absolutely necessary as that gives me that little extra margin to pull of the road at the next exit.
