Very Slow Mercedes
Manual was available in the 300sl with M104 5 speed, very hard to find,,,I have done 1 transplant years ago...we used parts from 3 cars 190e 2.6 manual/r129 and W124....finding the tranny is tough but if you have more cash than you know what to do with order from MB they are still available...Or you can always use a Viper 6 speed....No it won't bolt up,the used viper tranny, with custom bellhousing, reworked driveshaft will be cheaper than you can buy the 300SL tranny from MB...if you find a 300sl 5 speed used consider it your lottery win...
I found a Viper 6 speed for $700.00
I am certain teh pontiac GTO uses the same Tremac---
You can use a Ford Tremac but they are weak but on a stock 300e it should last...

Don't believe any W124 M104's were imported to the USA with a five speed.
The five speed was available in Europe.

The 1990-1994 R129 300SL / SL320 M104 was available in the USA with a five speed manual as a base transmission.

I priced a rebuilt 300sl tranny from the dealer a couple of years ago. Considering they were hard to come by I thought $1400 was fair.
