As most of you know the toe is adjusted in the 5-link rear suspension at the arm with the tie-rod. It goes to the subframe where it attaches with an eccentric bolt to slotted ears in the frame.
My question is this: I have a 86 manual 300E, a 88 auto 300E & a 95 E320. The 86 subframe has an additional eccentric bolt set-up in another arm that the 88 & 95 subframes do not ( they have a conventional bolt & hole). It definitely looks like a factory provision & not somebody's modification. I'm wondering if it was a first year of production thing that was phased out or what? Does anyone know the story on this?
The location in question is the pair of subframe ears directly opposite the ones for the tie-rod equipped arm. In other words, one pair is on the top of the frame & one is below but at the same location.
