Is de-chroming really neccesary?
I want my de-chrome the grill suround and have the holes filled. Is de-chroming really neccesary?
I have read a few threads that suggest yes. But so many people have painted grills that I am confused.

Dechroming is not necessary, but proper prep is critical.
You need to rough up the surface of the chrome to begin the process.
Steel wool or a 400 grit wet/dry paper usually will suffice.
Clean the roughed up surface thoroughly, especially if you use steel wool.
Use a quality acid etching primer.
Finish coat as normal.
Should hold up like any other body panel if prepped correctly !!!

Rio Nice work. Ok 2phast I agree I will be "doing it right" when I go back to texas. I am going to try it the wrong way for now. I am calling a body shop supplier in the Am to try and get the paint. I hope it will all work out.
