Trans Issue?

I had the wierdest thing happen to me last night as I was coming home. The car was fairly cold and I pulled out on the main street, a pocket opened up so i floored it to hit the kickdown switch in order to get over. The car did not immediatly respond so i looked down at the tach - the car had jumped to 3k but no acceleration - about a second later the car jumped to 5.5k and still no acceleration then all of a sudden at what I would estimate at 25 or so the trans grabs and the whole back end breaks loose and spins. Everything was under control and nothing like that happened later - the tranny seems fine and pulls hard. It seems the car must have auto downshifted and then got the signal from the kick down - downshifting twice - and then delivered all that power to the wheels. The street was dry, the tires new with pleanty of grip. The car is a 94 e320 with 115k. Any thing i should be worried about or was just this a fluke.

Really freaked out the lady next to me and I was a bit surprised myself - that this lil 6 could spin the tires at 25 - though I had a hemi there for a moment

This has been happening to me lately as it gets colder out. I want to change out the fluid and filter anyway so I would try that first.
