Has anyone replaced vanity mirror bulbs on a w124?
I've searched this forum and elsewhere on the 'net, and it appears that the vanity bulbs are not replaceable? My passenger side works, but neither of the driver side lamps light. Is this more likely a microswitch failure? Anyone get one of these visors apart without destroying it?
Also, what is the best way to remove the map light housing? My dome light is burned out (map light halogen is fine).
Thanks,
Neal

check the connections as well, where the visor snaps into the holder there are contacts that may be dirty, take a little WD40 and steel wool and clean them up a bit and see if that fixes it.

Check it out.
If you find that the visor hook has a contact leaf missing, just "pop" the tiny little cap inbetween the contacts and you will see the "phillips" head screw that lies inside vertically.
unscrew replace and you're done.

R & R visor
I just solved that issue on my 95 E300. Right visor lights did not work. To open, you need 2 or 3 small flat screwdrivers to pry up the base of the mirror/light body that snaps out of/into that plastic frame surrounding it. You'll see two openings, and pry there so that the bottom pops out, not the top.
However, my real problem was as the guys above describe. I took brake cleaner on a Q tip to wipe the crud off the visor clip metal contacts, and off the metal on the visor area that snaps into the clip. Then I bent downwards those metal contacts in the clip. My bulbs were fine, the microswitch was fine, and it lights again.
