Hey guys. There is a 1991 300E for sale near me that I am interested in. It has 230,000 kilometers on it, and the owner is asking $2500. This is low for a 300E in my area. The seller claims that he has never had any electrical issues with it and that all the power features work (heated power seats, sunroof, rear sunshade, etc).
However, the car is not inspected as it has been sitting for a while, as he was deployed overseas in the Canadian Armed Forces. He says it will need new tires soon (not a big deal, 15" tires are cheap).
The bigger issue is that he said he took it for a drive for the first time in a year, and once it reached a certain temperature, the car would shut off. He seems to think the heater core may be bad. Is the shutting off a symptom of a bad heater core? I realize that replacing it is a huge job. Is it possible that the problem is being caused by something simpler?

By the way, I am a Benz newbie so anything else you can tell me about these cars would be much appreciated! I've had a soft spot for the W124 for a long time and would love to have one in my driveway.

I can't think of any reason the heater core could cause stalling. I have heard of similar issues being caused by a bad fuel pump. They are mounted externally so if that's the problem, it's not a big deal.
