Google it man. Just do a local search for paint/Autobody shops. We can't do all the work for you.

I am considering repainting my car as well. I have read from numerous sources, that if you know how to properly prep a car and mask it off, Maaco can do the rest and it turns out really well. That is all stuff I have read from other peoples experiences.

Yes, I mean sanding, any removal of headlights, door rubber, chrome, badging. All the good stuff that Maaco paints over haha.

no i mean the paint being orange peeley, by them applying it too fast and the surfae has a rough finish an disn;t smooth. I guess i'll shell out the grand or two a body shop wants an duse it as an excuse t just my car that much longer.

anyone know how many gallons of paint it takes to paint a w124 (that saying reminds me of the old tootsie pop commercials) and roughly what a gallon of automotive paint costs

Just a guess here, but wouldn't you be better off calling either an autobody shop or an autobody supply shop? Your questions are lazy man.

Having worked in an automotive restoration shop for years, and painted several cars, I wanted to add a few comments.

The amount of paint a car will need will depend on if you plan to repaint all the door jambs. A gallon of base for a base/clear job should do the whole car inside and out with some left. A gallon of acrylic enamel would probably do it but not if you're doing jambs, and you'd be cutting it close.

Paint can be cheap or expensive, depending on what brand and type you buy. A friend of mine painted an old SEL with a gallon of Western enamel, the paint cost $40. Looked like it too. I've also had a bit of experience with Glasurit, which is the stuff that comes on Porches new (and possibly M-B, not sure what brand they use) A gallon of Glasurit base could cost $700+, and you haven't even bought primer or clearcoat yet.

If I paint the bottom half of my 300TE, I'll get a quart or so of PPG basecoat and some high solids Euro-clear, I'll probably spend a couple hundred on that. I can prep and paint it myself.

As for Maaco or Earl Sheib, you could have your car sprayed there if you prepped it all yourself. Bodywork and paint prep is what costs the most when you take your car to the bodyshop since it takes the most time. And the guys at Maaco do nothing but spray cars all day, so they'll be good at it, and they'll have a proper spray booth.

But whatever you do, DON'T use the paint they have there. Buy your own paint and give it to them if you're really serious about having them do it. They aren't going to be using any quality materials, as you can imagine, if they're only charging you $300 for a whole paint job.

And at that point, if you've done all the body and prep work, and you've bought your own paint, you may as well get in touch with a reputable body shop to have them spray the paint. It won't cost you as much as you think.

I am also a Connecticut local from New Haven. I'm currently penned up at Penn State U. however before I brought my W124 westward I got a $500 Macco job done in Stratford, CT. It came out pretty darn good however I prepped the whole car. Me and my girlfriend took the paint down with 80, 120, 240, 360, then 400. If you do the prep a Macco job will look just fine. However make sure you remove ALL panels and things like the mirrors, badges, antenna, grill frame, windshield washer jets, ect. as they will just tape around, everything and anything. And take that last sentence seriously.

Why do you need a paint job? Is the paint peeling?

Sorry it took me so long but my internet connection here at PennStU was restricted to 56k if you can even call it that anyhow I managed to take a picture with my phone, this is the best I can do. In person it looks shiny and has very little orange peel effect that would come out with a nice power buff.

btw thats a nice BMW M5 behind me, we park together AWAY from the other nonsense that comes through our parking lot.
