cold air intake
before any of you attack me i tried searchign and couldn;t find anything. Ok i want to put in a cold airintake, however i have the m103 motor with the airbox right on the manifold. I'm looking for the metal piece that attaches there (somethign like the piece that attached when you do a twin turbo) instead of rigging something up.
also does my car have a mas airflor sensor?

lots of cars
here is the secret! The ebay intakes use this boot and i was going to make a kit to sell on ebay but i just don't have the time. You can make your own intake with this, the 77 vw rabbit has a CIS type fuel injection and the boot fits our 300e.

Ya, this was one of the first things i remember asking/talking/finding about the car when i got it. Ive thought about redesigning the air intake so its smoother all around, adding a seperate filter/grill (some metal mesh or something) in front of the air intake.
the way the air intake is designed it allready gets the coldest air you can. only things you could do to improve.
-+++Use K&N or another highflow air filter.
-increase the actuall intake hole, but make sure it stays in the same area.
-find something to replace the hose that is smooth on the inside, the ridges cause some.. very little resistance.
if you use the typical "Hot air intake" it wont make a noticable, if any, difference. From what i can find, some filters dont work very well and people complain about grit-and-grime around the inside of the fittings.
other small things that might improve hp/performance.
-high-flow muffler and cattylic converter. or remove the catty.
-turn the A/C off....
-redo all your seats with lightweight racing seats, or take them out.
-upgrade suspensions, theres a kit on Mercedesshop.org for 1.5k that seems to help handling.

dont sacrifice your motor for sound purposes only....
id say lose the catty if you want better sound, although ive never heard one without a catty.
Im plannin on losin my catty and getting a highflow muffler later on, but not for a good while now.
Although i might just gut my catty. ima search for pre-post on it though.

lots of cars
Nope, not really. I was going to do it to sell it on ebay for $100 or more..
Cold air intake + w124 = 1 hp @ $100-$140
Exhaust + w124 = 5 hp $300 or more
Do you really want to spend $500 or more on 6-10hp? If you want HP look at the w201 section and look at the 190e ls1 thread.

Mercedes-Benz w124
Go buy a civic. I have a hunch you won't listen to our advice and you are going to make a thread in 3 months showing us your "cool" mods.
Regardless, welcome to the W124 section and enjoy your stay!
