So, I'm going to put the car into the shop monday - paying $1,100 for a new b2 brake band to be put in , as well as seals ; does this sound fair?

I would be very concerned about why it broke in the first place, and if something equally bad could happen again. That looks like a pretty stout piece of metal to break for no known reason. From what I've read on this site, these transmissions were the weakest part of these cars. And that's a pretty important part (along with the post '92 wiring harness) to be going bad.

Well, things break down and nothing lasts forever. And sometimes without any apparent reason. But you might want to check freeplay in the diff and see if the flex discs are worn. Even the splined section of the drive shaft while you are at it..
These are in my opinion strong and durable transmissions, where this kind of failure isnīt common. Although, sometimes itīs necessary to adjust the freeplay of the B2 band for improved shift quality.
And like Iīve said before: The lifetime of any transmission is greatly reduced when not serviced properly and perhaps abused for an extended period of time. By serviced properly, I mean replacing fluid and filter regularly and keeping the correct level of fluid in it.

Cheers,

Thanks 124-fan... I think perhaps the B2 band's tolerance may not have been properly set, but who the heck knows ; these transmissions are not fantastic. It was really clean when I opened the pan though (no metal) so i've decided that since this one was rebuilt already 3 yrs ago, to have it overhauled at a local shop ( The Transman ). So yeah, he's going to tear it apart and replace the seals / broken b2 band - $1,100 later - and I hope to god this problem does not reoccur ; I can't afford it. LoL
