Slow Wiper...Need Help..

My 91 300e has given me great service in the last year or so, I have covered 80,000 km's since I bought it. It now has 230K km's on it.. I noticed that the wiper was slow when coimg back to the original position in one spot, other than that it's fine.

My non-MB mechanic told me that it will need a new mechanism at a cost of $1038 for the part(s) and 2-3 hrs of his time. Thats a lot of money for a car worth so little. To make it worse he tells me that there are 2 designs of mounts depending on who the OEM was.

Thoughts? What does he mean by mechanism, is it just the motor? Can I do it myeslf? Can I grease it? With what?

The first few steps of this procedure deal with the wiper mechanism. I've done it myself in less time than that. It's not too bad, but there are some things that need to come off first.

I would lube the slides with turbine oil. It's just a generic oil like SAE 30, non-detergent. Lube everything you can find on it but don't let the excess drip all over because if it gets on the glass it will be a nightmare to clean off.

If you do have to replace it, which I doubt it needs, check for prices on the net. I will see if I can find it and update this post with a link.

Here's just the motor: http://mercedes.thebenzbin.com/?year...ield22222.y=11

It's under $200. If that link doesn't take you directly to it, you may have to select your model year, then 300E, then Body Electrical, then Wiper Motor.

I had a similar issue on my 400E and I simply shot the wiper piston with teflon penetrating oil... that worked pretty well, but then I got into it and greased all of the linkage fittings after I took off all of the plastic exterior cowlings. That made a huge difference.

Here is another option... the gears apparently can get dried out.
