i know weve gone over the whole synthetic vs dino oil thing. but im tired of burning oil like crazy so i was reading up on it. anyone heard/know anything about the other types of oil: hydroprocessed and severely hydroprocessed?
i got some info from this site, but i still dont know much.

http://www.mobil.com/Australia-Engli..._V_Mineral.asp

We know that basestock composition has a significant effect on the overall performance of motor oil. There are four different types of base stock used in the motor oil market today.
Group 1 - Conventional - Mineral oil derived from crude oil
Group 2 - Hydroprocessed - Highly refined mineral oil
Group 3 – Severe hydroprocessed - Ultra refined mineral oil
Group 4 – Full synthetics (chemically derived) - Chemically built Polyalphaolefins (PAO).

As it infers Groups 1 – 3 basestocks are derived from crude oil pumped from the ground whereas Group 4 basestocks are chemically derived, most often from ethylene gas, and contain none of the contaminants present in mineral oils. Just as distilled water is pure water derived from gas so Group 4 basestocks are pure oils derived from gas.

anyway, since we cant use full synthetic i most of our cars, would hydroprocessed be ok? thanks in advance

Just go with a decent brand conventional. Go thick like 20w-50.

actually i tried that, now once the car is warmed up, i idle at 2000 rpm. i didnt realize this till i accidentally shot out of my garage when i shifted into reverse. is this a normal side effect?

My old Honda prelude was burning like no other so I put 20w-50 in it, it didn't affect my idle. I'd say you have a different problem.
