1986 300E, 2008 C300

My 300E gained height!

Hi guys,

I just finished rebuilding the sub frame, 8 links, 4 sub frame bushings, 3 differential bushings, 2 wheel bearings, bushings on both lower control arms.

Now I noticed the gap between the tire & the quarter panel is noticeably larger!

I kept the original springs, why the height gain?

Any thoughts?

I'm no mechanic but here's my guess...
The old bushings (subframe and lower control arm) may have collapsed etc and thus not giving the strength they are supposed to give.

Did you tighten all 5 links with the suspension at "ready to drive" level? If not, if you tightened them at full sag, the car will sit higher. You'll need to loosen all of them, set the rear hub to the correct level, and re-tighten everything.

Also, if your old subframe bushings were really bad, new ones may increase the level slightly.
