92 4matic wagon with 4matic problems
My 92-4Matic has a faulty/broken 4matic control unit. Dealer wants $1700 for a replacement but a local german mechanic says he can repair/rebuild mine for $800. Dealer says the control unit(which determines when and how the front wheel drive kicks in to support rear wheels which are always engaged) dealer says it's a very sophistocated piece of electronics that can't be fixed.
Has anyone any experience or insight into repairing or replacing the 4matic control unit.
