Get a Chevy
well, a million miles on a chevy, i guess that IS newsworthy, and possibly qualifies as a miracle too.

). But I'm just being realistic. My car has been carefully maintained, with major rework about 15k miles ago. I've dropped probably $15k in necessary maintenance on this car since I bought it about 4 years ago. It has 200k miles on it. Receipts on the car from before I bought it total up to $20k. That's $35k over 200k miles. If you run that out over a million miles, that's $175k (or another $140k to go). Probably 4-5 tranny rebuilds, a few head gasket and valve jobs, etc. And by then, i'll probably need to replace the seats, other misc interior pieces, etc.So my estimate of 3 new luxury cars is a bit high... let's make it 2. But do I love this car enough to spend that kind of money to keep it running for another 800k? That's a rhetorical question because the answer should be obvious!
I could buy 2 brand new $70k cars over the next 800k miles rather than maintaining my benz. I'm not like Ksing. I'm not unhappy with my car. I've chosen to "pay to play" intentionally, completely knowing that lots of the money i've dropped on this car is for the hobby of it. I expected this car to give me less trouble, no doubt about that, but I have fallen in love with it enough to make the equation balance.
But 1 million miles? no thanks!!!
I have owned the car for more than 10 years, so I don’t think I am really a hater or a Johnny come lately kind of guy. I love my car like crazy. Carzy man carzy.

if you hot-rod the ***** out of it, then no, it will not go to one million miles. but maybe this guy took excessively good care of it? and drove it like a 80 year old man?
Guys the W124 is a very good and reliable vechicle and I love it, but it is not the best car in the world, get over it... Change your oil on time and maintain it good and hope for the best.
freeway miles are very easy on cars. being as this truck was used for deliveries i dont see the milage as spectacular. its a nice feat. dont get me wrong. but someone commuting long distance everyday in thier daily driver is gonna get that kinda milage out of any of these newe cars.
or old benzes.

I just returned from St. Croix, USVI. For those who have never been there, it is a very unique set of conditions for cars. I have family there so I'm quite familiar with things on the island.
Everyone drives on the left. The roads are all asphalt and FULL of potholes. You will definitely end up going off-road such as when you want to go to a scenic overlook or the beach where the last scene of Shawshank Redemption was filmed. Off-Road means plenty of sharp rocks and 10-inch deep ruts. The air is filled with salt spray. It's very sunny and moderately humid, with highs in the lower to mid 80's. The roads are very hilly and twisty. And here's the best part: There are speed limits posted, but the signs are just for decoration because the police do not have radar detectors so they cannot issue speeding tickets.
) drives as fast as the road and their cars will allow.
I went on a Jeep tour through the hills. One of the 2 Jeeps didn't even make it back due to the harshness of the terrain.
I drove a relative's 2001 Focus with 50,000 miles on it that felt like it had 150,000 miles. This island will tear any car up in no time. The Focus had already had a couple thousand in repairs and now had a problem with the front stabilizer bushings or something like that.
But this morning I saw a 300E W124 that looked and sounded good. Just the fact that it was being driven there is testimony to its durability. Any car that can withstand this island is a great car as far as I'm concerned. I also saw a few W123 diesels, and an old Merc diesel that I couldn't believe was still running. There's no MB dealer on the island so apparently the local indies area able to keep them running, which is surprising.
Any car travelling over 200K needs $$ to keep it going...even a Jap car.Corvettes are cool too...build quality isn't there like a german car but they are reliable and are as fast as any European sports car...if not faster....and much cheaper to get into.
Just my 2 cents.

just an interesting juxtaposition of statements IMO...
