FOund a bit of info that might help

So i found that the #17 is an Electronic accelerator control module. I think the wiring harness is OK but the EAC might be the issue. Anyone ever done this or had this problem. What was the cost and was it hard to find.

Thanks

what are your symtoms? CAN actually stands for Controller Area Network, this code can set for various reasons and the car may not have an issue at all, do you know whaich modules lost communication? if no symtoms are present i would not be concerned with it. has it been erased? does it return?

code 17

The car has an irratic idle. It will fluxuate from 500 to 1800 rpms and has a slightly rough idle below 1000 rpm. it has a slow responding gas pedal from a stop. I looked at the wiring harness and it doesn't look corroded or show signs of deterioration. the tag on the wiring harness is form 11/8/93 and the car was built in 5/1/94. I don't know when they changed the harness to the better quality one. I have a call into the dealership for a service history. Since the harness looks so good I am thinking it is the Electronic accelerator control module. This is only an educated guess but it seems logical that this would be the next likely issue.

most often the haness on the actual actuator goes bad as well, and by the time the main engine harness has been replaced the actuator harness is bad, usually to check it, the unit should be removed, i make a very short slice in the harness and inspect it for damaged insulation. if it is good, before you reinstall it, be sure to clean the throttle plate well and replace the sealing gasket and rubber intake boot.

error code

I think I have actually narrowed it down to the MAS air flow unit. Luckily I have a replacement wiring harness on the car already and it is in very good shape so I dodged a bullet there. I actually found a great spot to buy the MAS unit from. ROCKAUTO.COM. they have three to choose from the Bosch brand OEM is $217.00 and the delco reman is $149.00. They ship Fed ex in 2 days. I will repost with the condition of the part.

Was it really the MAF?? Just curious. Also, other than rockauto.com, a lot of people know that autohausaz.com is also a good place to buy w124 Bosch OEM parts..
