Brake line help, please.

1994 E420 Mercedes. My problem is this. My mercedes came from the Chicago area. (Lots of Salt) and my brake lines from the firewall back are rust buckets and actually leaking in one spot in the rear. Can I cut out the bad part and splice in a section, until I can replace them all? Also what are my options for replacing them all. The stealers going to have a ball with this if I can't do it myself.
Thanks,
Bill

Brake line help

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with the car. You can cut and splice brake lines but it is not recomended. If they are hard lines you basiclly cut out the bad section and use flexible/rubber hose to fill the void. Just slide the rubber hose (with a inside diameter that matches the outside diameter of the hardlines) about 2 or 3 inches over the cut hardlines on each side. You need to make sure that you use the properly rated psi rated lines and i would double up the hose clamps spacing them 3/4 to 1 inch appart. Don't overtighten the hose clamps or you might collapse the already week hard lines. Again the splice thing is not the recommended thing to do more the redneck remedy but it may do for a while.

Hope this helps
