Picked it up yesterday for $2400, its red, has 162k miles, kept VERY nice and clean. Still need a name for her, Im sure thatll come to me soon. I love how it just cruises on the highway, but can also have fun in the city as well. I happened to be driving alongside another 300E from the same era, it was some lady driving it, she honked and waved at me, I did the same. Ive never had that happen with any of my other cars. Only mods I have planned for now are a new stereo and maybe some window tint.

Those are great cars, as long as you take very good care of it, it will take very good care of you.

MPG on those will make you fairly satisfied.

And I know what you're sayin...I see E320's all over the highway and I just love to cruise right next to them...I just wish there were some actual "modded" w124's here in tha STL!

My '87 got 20.5 on it's first tank - 80% highway, 20% very fast city driving. Gotta love a fast car.

Ive named her Emily, was the first "E" name that came to mind. Needs a new cassette player, Im keeping her as original as possible, I can still play my Ipod through an FM transmitter. I have a few cassettes laying around though. Problem with these cars is, removing the radio is a PITA because of MB's anti-theft device. When you take out the radio, its never useable again, and an alarm goes off. Gotta be something that controls that system, anybody know how to disable it? Ill be hunting for another stock, working head unit soon. Otherwise, she runs just fine

You just have to enter the code to get the radio activated again. If you don't have the code, take it to the dealer with proof of ownership and they should be able to reset the code. For a few dollars, of course.

Congrats.

About the radio - I pulled the radio on my 87 300e out without the alarm sounding. What was weird was that it showed no evidence of ever being pulled out, and yet the wire harness was not plugged into the back of it. I wondered why the stock head never turned on. Anyway, if you disconnect the battery before pulling it out, the alarm should not sound and you can put in an aftermarket radio meanwhile.

The way the stock head unit is in place..makes it tough to take out while preserving it 100%. Do you want to go aftermarket ?

What are you talking about? Its so easy with the blades, just slide them in and pull the radio out. Nothing gets damaged at all O_o

It is not that easy with the stock head. Aftermarket keys do not just slide in between the stock head and the factory sleeve.

I have OEM keys, and it was that easy. I have the Euro\later model Becker CD head unit, and nothing was damaged. Hey, if I could figure it out :P

While you are back there, I suggest you pick up a AUX in cable for a Becker head unit so that you can have some nice line-in for whatever device you have, and not have to mess with FM transmitters and the like. I pushed mine through the right hand side of the center instrument cluster, so it came out between the side of the instrument panel and the carpeting, and comes up by the arm rest, where I plug in my DAP and control it from there. Definately worth the trouble
