Replacement bulb for dip lamp
One of the dip lamp bulb on my E200 headlight assambly was not working. The original bulb was a 4 watt version but I couldn't seem to be able to find it in my country. The only one available is the 5 watt version.
Can I replace it with the 5w bulb?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe you may do it, but I suggest you change both sides. The warning light in the dash for burned bulbs works by comparison of wattage between both sides of the car so it could detect the difference and give you a false fault lamp warning.

Thanks Rafael.
I tried changing both the bulbs and they are working fine. However, the warning light in the dash board remain lit. I am just wondering if there is any simple modification that we can make so as to let the warning light works in it normal way.

CP

If the bulbs monitor still is lit another bulb may be burnt, which is harder to notice.
Check the license plate illumination
Side markers
brake lights
back up lights
regular rear lights
Sometimes it may also be just a corroded socket of some bulbs in the rear lamp assembly, which distorts the resistance for the monitoring relay, and leads to false readings

I confirmed it is because of the 5w bulb. I borrowed a pair of 4w bulbs from my friend's E200, fixed it onto mine and the indicator went off.
I am now living with the 5w bulb temporary but still hope to get this resolve. If not, I wouldn't know if some day, some other bulb went faulty again as the indicator is always lit.

It's incredible!!!
Only with that small change in wattage (1w) and the warning light is on!!
No doubt, when these german engineers want to make things accurate they do it!!
I'm glad that at least you know what the problem is.
