Different Fuel Filter??

I just went to change the fuel filter on my 95 E320 coupe and noticed that the one I was sold by the dealer in St. Catharines Ontario was much smaller. When I returned for the correct one the women told me that was the one they now used, on ALL their cars. How convenient for them, less to stock no doubt. It was the wrong part number and was mach to small in diameter to even be held by the bracket. She then produced a plastic sleeve with the instructions to put it over the replacement and it would now fit. Is it just me or this another example of the dealer trying to pull the wool over my eyes. You know...the olde "BS baffles brains" trick.

Brian, they don't really know what they are doing at St. Cath. with respect to the older cars and the prices they charge are way to high. I usually get parts from MB Buffalo and they are way cheaper than in Canada. Also, try buymbparts.com they are good and delivery is fast.

I usually deal with MB Oakville and then only because of one guy there. In fact, I followed him from Burlington...he really knows his stuff and nice too! The little girl at the parts counter in St.Catharines has no clue and no skill in dealing with customer. Totally arrogant. I ended up calling my guy on the phone from their parking lot and got all the right numbers. When I went back in and told her this is what we needed she then tried to tell me it wasn't a good number. Guess where we got it from. I was down there working on my friends car. I would NEVER deal with those idiots at Performance if I didn't have to. I had a bad experience with a 300E that their body shop (which I thought was an MB shop only to discover it isn't) They quoted to repair it and told my insurance comapny it could be repaired for $18K. When I discovered they weren't an MB approved shop I had it towed to Meray only to have them say it was toast. Of course the insurance company gets into it with me 'cause they were told it could be fixed by one shop and now the other shop says it can't be fixed....what a nightmare that was. I've used Great Lakes a couple of times. Nice guys. Bit of a drive for me though.
