Dash Light mod

Well here it is, it didn't turn out how I suspected it to, none the less the light output is 3x better than OEM to me... If I had a chance to do it again I would defenetly not touch anything, due to the fact that I screwd up my turn signals, left is right, right is left, couldn't trouble shoot it so I took the bulbs out ... Anyways, I started this about 2 months ago, just never got around to finishing it, today I found some free time and seeing it as how the warm weather is coming I want the car back!

Picture 1 and 2 show's the Led's I used, bought them at a car electronics store, they told me approx life time on them is roughly 5 years. We'll see...

Picture 3 is just a general layout of the cluster from the rear, and all the cables you need to disconect, they are pretty much all clip-on's.
Took me about 25 min to connect that speedo cable back in it's a pain in the ***...

Picture 4 shows where I drilled a hole for the led placement, the corner two led's I really couldn't hide anywhere, there fore the light out put from them is really visible, but not to eye catching since its still mosting hitting downward the cluster.

Picture 5 and 5b shows the led's installed.

Picture 6 shows where I had to run the main power for the lights, I took all the negative wires from all the lights connected them together, and the same for the positive, ran the aftermarket speaker wire you see in the picture to connect to the main power source from the radio. Also I bought some cliping conectors for the wires instead of hardwiring the wires, just incase I need to remove the cluster all I would do is just disconect the clips simillar to the speedo ones...

The next picture shows the actuall light output with everything installed and the cluster back in it's place. The light out put isin't as strong as in this picture my camera throws a lot of blur, there fore it's not as bad.

I had some extra led's tought I may as well light up the shifter boot a little...

There you have it guys, thanks for viewing, all comments welcome, negative or positive I dont care. Who ever tries this good luck and I hope you do a better job.

Trust me guys, it doesn't look as bright as in these pics, my camera lens are very messed up I'll try posing up a pic with another camera.

Are these the ebay lights you are talking about?

berti, where do you put those little bulbs you have on the ebay link?

because the bulbs on the cluster right now do not look anything like those, or are the ones you posted for switches??

yeah, I figured it was just an exposure issue in your pics. I'm sure you would hate it if the lights were actually as bright as they seem in those pics.

behind the cluster you dont even have to open it... there are like 3 sockets i think you twist them out and pull the light out and stick this one in and pop it back in by twisting it....

look behind your cluster you'll see your lights they are black pieces sticking out take them out and they will come out with bulbs than simply pull the bulb out by replacing it with the one i showdd you ..;.. very easy...
for me i just think i might know how to pull the cluster out cuz other than that i should be fine

Yeah...that's what I wanted. I don't want to drill new holes or whatever, just simply replace the lights with a different color.

I already have LEDs hard wired to a switch, so I don't need anymore work.

I have the white gauges, so that will look pretty schweeeet!

Those leds from ebay would be the best/easiest solution, I just dont think that they will throw out the same light output as OEM... but I just ordered 10 pieces, I'll get back to you guys... I'm really not digging the messy wiring I did, but it's good for now.

lol yah well since you ordered a set when you get it make sure you show us the pics and such how you did it.... and yah clear up the wiring, it could also be dangerous, if something sparks and stuff burn up the whole car.. this way all you doo is plug and play with same led output and these are low heat too

good luck
