I been had...

Just bought a 1991 300E...

It runs great, looks ok, and had no problems until...

My son and I took it to the mountains to go on a hiking trip. Roughly 250 miles. We came back to the car and discovered a puddle of oil about 4" in diameter.

After getting it home, I popped the hood and gave it a good second look.

Here is what the valve cover gasket looks like.

I know this ain't good. I am assuming it is leaking past the manifold and down to the drip pan.

Is this the main source of the 300 E leaks, or do I need to investigate further?

500E Signal Rot
caveat emptor

Never buy a car without have a full inspection done, with good focus on the drivetrain.

Just ordered the valve cover gasket, should be here next Wednesday.

I hope that is the only source of "leakage".

The car does run and drive exceptionally well.

My first Benz ya know.

You must have some pretty efficient little mechanic elves in montreal because book time on a head gasket is 10 hrs, not 1/2 hr.

Valve cover is another story...

I can't tell exactly where the oil is coming from. What is the highest point where the oil is coming from? Is it the head gasket, valve cover gasket, front or back?

Word. I did a head gasket on my first w124 and 10hrs is if you know what you're doing! I wish it took me 10 hrs...

You never know...the French must be good for something-maybe it's the changing of gaskets

Btw Zorro, Stars ftw
