Ticking noise

Ticking noise
There is a weird ticking noise on my 1990 300E that sounds exactly like a turn signal coming from under the battery. You can hear it most under the dash on the passenger seat.
It might be the alarm system, but it usually turns off when you unlock and turn the car on. When we pull into our driveway the headlights start flashing. We lock the car and they stop for a while. I'm afraid they might be back on.
There is also like an electric crackley noise coming from the battery place.
How can I fix this please and thank you.

I just had the exact same problem!!
I got into my e320 2 weeks ago and i heard the same noise coming from that area. I once realized all my lights were blinking, but it wouldnt start. So I took up the passenger side carpets and got the piece of metal off and disabled the alarm temporarily. Charged the battery, and viola...
