--Benz wheels--how would they look?
#26
My question is: why not MAKE them fit? Either through custom body work or whatever means. Then your car is that much more unique. Coming from hot rods, muscle cars, and even drift cars, I've seen pretty much all types of wheels on all types of cars, many of which were never meant to be bolted on. People seem to be scared just because there's a silver star on our hoods. I don't get it.

I get a better feeling installing a 460 on my 69 than putting bigger rims on my benz...

ChrisDPham,
No need to try to call me out on my knowledge. As far as what I know about W124s -- they're made of metal, which can be modified. That's all I need to know about them. I'm not saying that everyone should do it, just that they could if they wanted a particular wheel to fit. A few extra mm of clearance shouldn't be a deterrent if someone really wants their car to stand out. All I see on this site is "just get 18x8 +35". Come on now. I don't even like the wheels the OP wants to get, but it's his car and it's completely possible to make them work. As far as reasonable, sure why not? What is reasonable about spending ANY time or money on these cars, or any other car for that matter?
All of these cars were mine, and made of metal as well (for the most part). None of the wheels should have fit, but they did. I think at least that much qualifies me to talk about wheel fitment:
15x8 -35 offset on a Corolla
18x10 0 offset (I heard it was impossible on an RX-7, but my buddy Justin did it before I bought this car from him)
18x10.5 -20 offset on the rear
22x10 +15 offset (narrowed the frame and control arms, and milled 3mm off the back pads of the wheels)
20x9 (forgot the offset, but narrowed the control arms to allow turning)
I've got more pics of cars I've built somewhere, but you get the gist.
YNV, I completely agree with you, but it's not like the car would require major surgery to make the wheels fit in this case. That is, if the owner wanted them bad enough. If not, then that's cool too. It's not for everyone. But it's an option at least.

hey ramblux nice collection of cars man, i sure do appriciate when a fellow car-enthusiasts goes a different way. Im the same way, and that's y i will make the 17X10 's on my E320 fit like a glove. As for the rims it seems that everyone uses a 18X8.5 with the same offset to be on the "Safe Side".
BTW these are my previous cars
16X10 in the back
19X11
19X9.5

See, it also has to do with the look you are going for. I personally don't like the stretched out tire look with a whole bunch of - offset. Also, did those cars have camber kits on them (except for the trucks)? We don't have an aftermarket for these cars so anything we f@ck up is gonna cost a lot to fix.
It's also easier to have a 0 or negative offset than to having +35 offset because i'm sure you guys won't want to deal with the inner fenders. Every car is different and wheel fitment, offset, and backspace depends on the suspension and wheel well. I sell wheels on the side too and i make sure every wheel i sell fits without rubbing and i've never had a wheel set returned because of rubbing. I've put 20s on a bagged civic but just because they bolt on doesn't mean it looks good or "fits".
How about this...Anyone care to try 255/35/18 on the rear and show me some pictures.

I didn't put them on the wagon because they were never meant for the wagon -- they were for my W210, but since my wife drives that car I changed my mind about putting them on, besides the fact that my clients would look at me funny.
Link to craigslist ad? I wouldn't mind another set for $300! haha
As far as inner fenders, we cut them out or modify them if we have to. And like I said before, I'm only trying to help the OP. I don't like the wheels he posted, but again -- it's his car. I agree that a lot of cars don't look good with certain wheels, but that's my opinion as much as it is anyone else's. The only person it should really matter to is the owner of the car.
I didn't mean to get anyone riled up here, just wanted to express my opinions that there are always options/other ways to do things.

I've only fixed up one Honda, and that was for a magazine project. haha Besides, our cars are at least 13 years old. I bought mine for under $3k, so I guess that's why I don't feel bad about cutting into it if need be.
And I might do 18x9.5 on my car eventually, but I personally think 19s look too big on a W124. I do have 9s for the rear, but the tires haven't shown up yet.
Fine, I retract my previous statements, no biggie. I'd rather have friends than enemies on the Internet I guess. Carry on.

LOL.. Some nice pics in this thread..
Well well.. I'm going 18 but I'm not doing something that has been done before.. It's some Japanese stuff.. Will post pics in about two months, which is when the project is due to complete for the summer show
Hopefully then my 124 will not be yet another 124 with the obligatory H&R Bilstein Sports and AMGs
