Yeah, sometimes the wheel position will prevent the key from turning, just play with the wheel with the key in and you will find the position that lets you turn it on.

If above fails....... the tumblers are jammed and a little force is needed to dislodge them, try hitting the key with a hammer into the lock if that fails just force the key clockwise with pliers, not to the point where the key is going to break but enough pressure to dislodge the stuck pin.

The steering wheel and shifter position are common things your probly would have checked before posting a thread about this.
I had the same problem when I first got the car. It would be fine sometimes, and other times it would be impossible to get started. I had read up on bump-keys and how they work so i gave the mallet trick a try. Sure enough a little tap into the ignition fixed the problem. I sprayed a little slick 50 lubricant in and it hasnt stuck in almost 2 years.

Repair BEFORE getting stranded.
Mine did it too. I got a new ignition lock from Mercedes for $85. NO TOW for me.
It was simple to replace it (search this forum for instructions), and when it came out, I found several pieces of the old one jammed up in there.
